In plain terms: we want everyone — including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology — to be able to use this site and reach us about a detained shipment. We build toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA, we know we're not perfect, and if anything on the site gets in your way, we'll help you directly by phone, WhatsApp, or email while we fix it.

1. Our Commitment

FDA Detention Sampling is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology. Importers dealing with a detained shipment are often working under deadline stress; the last thing anyone needs is a website that adds barriers. Accessibility is treated as part of quality, not an afterthought.

2. Conformance Standard

We aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). "Aim for" is the honest phrasing: this site is actively maintained, content changes, and we do not claim perfect or certified conformance. Where we find gaps — or you point them out — we work to close them.

3. Measures We Take

  • Semantic structure: pages use meaningful HTML landmarks, a single main heading per page, and a logical heading hierarchy so screen readers can navigate by structure.
  • Keyboard access: interactive elements — navigation, buttons, links, expandable FAQ items, and form fields — are operable by keyboard, with visible focus indicators throughout.
  • Color and contrast: text and interface colors are chosen to meet AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds, and color is not used as the only means of conveying information.
  • Text alternatives: informative images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Forms: every form field has a programmatically associated label, required fields are marked in text (not color alone), and validation errors are announced via a status region and indicated at the field.
  • Motion: animations and scroll effects respect the "reduced motion" system preference and are disabled for users who set it.
  • Resizable and responsive: layouts reflow for zoom and small screens without loss of content or function, and touch targets meet minimum size guidance.
  • Plain language: regulatory jargon is defined where used, and a plain-language glossary covers the vocabulary of the detention process.

4. Compatibility

The site is built with standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and common assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnification, and speech input. Core content remains readable if JavaScript is unavailable; enhancements such as expandable sections degrade gracefully.

5. Known Limitations

  • Third-party services: our contact and intake forms submit through HubSpot, and some functionality (such as tracking cookies) is provided by third parties whose code we do not fully control. We choose configurations that preserve accessibility wherever possible.
  • External websites: we link to government and other external sites (FDA.gov, CBP.gov, and others) whose accessibility we do not control.
  • User-supplied documents: documents exchanged during a case (notices, labels, reports) originate from third parties and may not be accessible; on request, we will help communicate their contents.
  • Recent content: newly published or updated pages may briefly contain issues we have not yet caught.
